week certification course,

five separate sections with
field assignments given at
the end of each one.

The
Bar Ownership program
is designed for new or
prospective bar owners with
little to no experience in
the bar & restaurant
industry. The course takes
the student through the
process of conceiving,
designing, and opening a new
bar. It also covers the
process of purchasing an
existing operation. You will
have 14 days from the time
of your registration to
complete the program at your
leisure. This course will
take you through the three
primary phases of bar
ownership:
(Phase 1) Pre-Contemplation:
1. Type
of Business- Registering
your business as a sole
proprietorship, corporation,
or partnership will make a
big difference in your
operation's taxes,
liabilities, and money
management. Here you will
learn which is best for you
and why.
2. Type
of Bar- Whether you're
looking at opening a
neighborhood bar, nightclub,
lounge, or restaurant/bar
combination, each type of
bar comes with its own set
of risks and rewards. These
differences are discussed at
length in this section as
are the start-up details for
each type of operation.
3.Location Data: Where
should you open or purchase
a bar? What are the benefits
and risks of the location
you've chosen? How do you
properly assess a potential
area for a new bar? Here you
will learn the answers to
these questions and how to
assess your own locations.

Estimated Start-Up Costs-
How much is the average cost
to open or purchase a bar?
We'll give you an industry
breakdown as to how much
money you're looking at to
open any category of bar in

(Phase 2) Planning &
Development:

plan-How do you go about

a bar? What information
needs to be included? What
format does it need to be
in? Where do you find all of

needed for completion? We'll

provide you with sample
plans to use as a template.

Financing & Expenses:
Where do you go for
financing your new business
venture? How much money will
you need to get started?
What are your chances at
getting a loan? We'll
discuss what types of
financing are available,
what your qualifications
need to be to get them, and
how to negotiate rates and
terms for any commercial
loan.
3.
Licensing- Liquor licenses,
food licenses, entertainment
licenses, and business
organizations are discussed
at great length here as is
the process to acquire these
licenses and restrictions
they include.
4.
Purchase & Lease
Agreements-Whether it's
securing a contract for
construction of a new
building, negotiating a
lease agreement, or
purchasing an existing bar,
we'll teach you the process
for securing your bar's
location
5.
Design & Construction-
Layouts, building codes,
zoning restrictions,
building limitations,
colors, themes, and
furnishings are all covered
in this section.
6.
Equipment- What type of
equipment your going to
need, how much it's going to
cost you, and where you can
get it is all discussed in
this segment.
(Phase 3) Functional
Operations:
1.
Hiring & Labor Costs-
Where to find new employees,
how to qualify applicants,
how to staff your
establishment, and how to
forecast labor needs are all
discussed in this section.
2.
Stocking & Inventory
Controls: What is a
perpetual inventory system?
What inventory limitations
should you set? How much
product should you order or
have in stock? Learn about

Insurance & Liability:
Dram shop insurance, fire
coverage, theft coverage,
liability laws are all
